Traditional performing arts of Okinawa
August 29, 2015
On Kyubon, June 15th on the lunar calendar, Eisa is performed to pray for big harvest.
The local youth energetically performing Eisa is the highlight of the event!
Takashiho Street Eisa Paradise is held on the day after Kyubon, during which the street is closed to vehicular traffic from 3:00pm to 6:00pm and youth Eisa groups get together from all over Yomitan to parade along the street.
This parade is called Michi Junee in the Okinawa native language.
Even in the small village of Yomitan, each region has a different style of Eisa, offering visitors the chance to see various styles of Eisa during the parade!
